BVMRF-administered VA research is conducted at high-quality clinical research facilities within the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the VA Bronx Health Care System and Castle Point VA Medical Center and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Hospital in the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System.

VA Medical Centers conduct research to discover knowledge, develop VA scientists and health care leaders, and create innovations that advance health care for Veterans and the nation. They offer Veterans the opportunity to participate in and benefit from their work in research and education to promote better health and health care for all.


James J. Peters VA Medical Center

The James J. Peters VA Medical Center is the oldest VA hospital in New York City with a rich history that celebrates over 100 years of service to veterans dating back to the 1920s. As the main campus of the VA Bronx Health Care System, it provides primary care and specialty healthcare services, including amputation care, cardiology, mental health care, pain management, palliative, and hospice care, transplant surgery, and more. Fully accredited by the Joint Commission, the Commission of Accreditation on Rehabilitation Facilities, the Commission on Cancer, and others, it is has 311 authorized hospital and 120 nursing home beds and also serves as a teaching hospital. The Medical Center is affiliated with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the North Central Bronx Hospital for Special Surgery, and the Columbia Presbyterian School of Medicine. The James J. Peters VA Medical Center’s world-renowned research program has been widely recognized for its many achievements; its researchers have received many national and international awards, including the Nobel Prize.

Castle Point VA Medical Center and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Hospital

The VA Hudson Valley Health Care System serves 24,000 Veterans in the Hudson Valley of New York, providing primary and specialty care, mental health, social programs, and other health care services including skin care (dermatology), dental care, mental health care, hospice and palliative care, weight management, and more through two main hospital facilities, the Castle Point VA Medical Center in Wappingers Falls and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Hospital in Montrose. Castle Point VA Medical Center opened in 1924 on a campus 65 miles north of New York City. Franklin Delano Roosevelt Hospital opened in 1950 on a campus in northern Westchester County, 38 miles north of New York City; it maintains one of the largest community home care programs within the VA system. Both facilities have an active accredited research program and serve as general medicine and surgery teaching hospitals
