Celebrating Excellence in Research - 2023
On September 12, 2023, the Bronx Veterans Medical Research Foundation celebrated its 31-year partnership with the James J. Peters VA Medical Center (JJP VAMC) and the VA Bronx Health Care System community in the mission to advance Veterans’ health through research and education by participating in the Celebrating Excellence in Research event. This event showcased numerous groundbreaking research topics and featured keynote addresses from VHA leadership as well as esteemed researchers from JJP VAMC and its affiliates, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Columbia University Vagelos School of Physicians and Surgeons.
The scientific sessions featured topics including Precision Oncology: Research Initiatives and Opportunities for our Veterans; Cancer Epidemiology and Comparative Effectiveness Research Using National VA Data; Project Life Force: Telehealth Group Suicide Safety Planning Intervention for High-Risk Suicidal Veterans; MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy for Chronic PTSD; Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders: Contribution From Brain Donation, Fluid Biomarkers and Clinical Profiles Leading to Best Treatments; Parkinsonism in Veterans: The Role of Head Injury and Other Factors; Romosozumab to Improve Bone Mineral Density and Architecture in Veterans with Chronic Spinal Cord Injury; and other pioneering research initiatives. The event also emphasized how the VA’s Million Veteran Program (MVP), a national research program looking at how genes, lifestyle, military experiences, and exposures affect health and wellness in Veterans, has been leveraged to advance the VA healthcare mission, ensuring optimal care for our veterans.
